NEW DELHI: Reports suggest that Congress leader VD Satheesan is back again in the top contention to become the new chief minister of the state. There are also reports that the high command is pressuring KC Venugopal, who has the support of the MLAs, to withdraw. This morning, a report prepared by the Kerala observers was submitted to AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge. This report reflects the public sentiment in favour of VD Satheesan. However, KC Venugopal has the support of the majority MLAs.

It is learnt that this information has been conveyed to Rahul Gandhi unofficially. It is learnt that many senior leaders in the high command are pressuring KC Venugopal to step down. If KC Venugopal gives in to the pressure of the leaders, the Chief Minister's post will have to be given to VD Satheesan. In the discussion held by the observer team with the allies the other day, VD Satheesan received more support.

But if KC Venugopal withdraws, it is not clear who he will propose. If KC proposes Ramesh Chennithala's name, the CM debate may be prolonged again. Satheesan has the support of the Muslim League and Kerala Congress. Other coalition parties have no issues with either of the duo becoming the chief minister. Kerala Congress wants a sitting MLA to become the Chief Minister. Leaders of coalition parties not represented in the assembly and the KDP leadership met with observers.
