KOTTAYAM: Former MLA PC George has been remanded for 14 days in connection with the hate speech he made during a TV channel debate. The Eerattupetta Magistrate Court rejected his bail plea. He will remain in police custody until 6 PM today and is currently being interrogated by a team led by the Pala DySP.

PC George voluntarily surrendered before the Eerattupetta Court this morning. Though he had earlier informed the police that he would appear at the Eerattupetta Police Station for questioning, he instead opted to surrender directly in court, aiming for bail. However, the court denied bail and placed him in police custody. Following this, he was subjected to a medical examination.

The police had been searching for PC George for the past two days. He had requested a two-day grace period to surrender after the police initiated the move to arrest him the other day. George made the anti-Muslim remark during a TV channel discussion on January 5. The Erattupetta police registered a case against him under the non-bailable section based on a complaint filed by the Youth League. The Kottayam Additional Sessions Court and the High Court later rejected his anticipatory bail plea.
