Seven injured after car runs over people sleeping on footpath
KOZHIKODE: A car ran over a group including women sleeping on the footpath, injuring seven. One of them is in critical condition. The car, which did not stop after the accident, was chased by another group and caught. The incident took place near the Kallai bridge at 3 am yesterday.
Those injured in the accident are Ramaiah (55), Veeraiah (56), Dhanalakshmi (53), Ayyamma (53, Arumakannan (56), Sakthivel (57) and Kamini (52), natives of Cuddalore Mavattam. Ramaiah is seriously injured. The bones below the knee of his leg were broken. His femur, ribs and jaw were broken. Ramaiah has been admitted to the ICU as emergency surgery could not be performed.
After the accident, the car that did not stop was followed by youths in another car and stopped near Pushpa Junction. The car was occupied by Mohammed Farzan of Aikarapadi, Malappuram, and Adil Shan, a native of Chelembra. They were released after being issued a police notice. The police said that a case will be registered today after recording the statements of the accident victims. There is a complaint that those in the car were not subjected to a drug test. Suspicious items were found in their car.
