KOCHI: Grade SI Mujeeb Rahman of Elamakkara station, accused of using sexual innuendoes to a female doctor and extorting Rs. 1.5 lakh from another young doctor by threatening to implicate her in a drug case, was arrested on Monday. Rahman is a native of Sasthamkotta, Kollam. Mujeeb Rahman, who was absconding since the case, surrendered at the Ernakulam North police station yesterday morning. Elamakkara police then took him into custody and registered an arrest.
At the station, Mujeeb Rahman broke down in tears in front of the Elamakkara SHO, testifying that he had not taken money and denied misbehaving with the doctor. Mujeeb claimed that he had called the doctor as part of the investigation.
Mujeeb Rahman was investigating the case of a young man arrested with five grams of MDMA last August. He approached the doctors, saying their names were on the accused's phone call list.
A female doctor from Kollam has alleged that Mujeeb threatened to frame her in a drug trafficking case if she did not give in to his sexual advances. Mujeeb was transferred to the AR camp after a case was registered. Following this, another 35-year-old doctor approached the police with a complaint of money laundering. The doctor had been threatened in person and over the phone for about a month.
Mujeeb went into hiding after an FIR was registered in the second case. Mujeeb was questioned in the presence of senior officials till Monday evening. Mujeeb Rahman, who had faced several allegations earlier, was removed from law-and-order duties. Departmental reports are also against him.
