MALAPPURAM: P Abdul Hameed, general secretary of the Malappuram district committee of the Muslim League, has criticised the delay in the Congress party’s decision on the Chief Minister post in Kerala. He said the decision should be made quickly and warned that further delay could lead to serious consequences.

“We hope the Congress high command and leadership understand that there could be repercussions if the decision is delayed further. This is not like the past. The backlash could come in a different form,” he said.

Abdul Hameed added that this should have been a time for celebration in Malappuram district after the election victory, but party workers are unhappy. He said the situation had become so tense that elected MLAs were even asked not to attend reception programmes.

“Women voters and others in the district are asking questions. It is not right to keep delaying the decision. At a time when a new government should be taking charge, the uncertainty is creating dissatisfaction at every level,” he said.

He also warned that such dissatisfaction can only be controlled to a certain extent and should not be ignored if it grows further.

According to him, Kerala has many urgent issues that need government intervention. He said the people of Kerala have given a clear mandate and political leaders should not ignore it.

“The victory belongs to Team UDF as a whole. Everywhere people gather, this is the main topic of discussion. Leadership is not rising in line with performance, and the leadership is failing to connect with party workers,” Abdul Hameed said.

He also said that the Muslim League had already conveyed its opinion to the Congress leadership and warned against comparing Kerala politics with northern Indian states.

“If leaders tell party workers to wait for months like in Delhi and say there is still time until the 23rd, they will face anger from the cadres,” he added.
