THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: LDF Convener T P Ramakrishnan stated that the LDF will conduct a detailed analysis of the reasons behind its recent election defeat. Speaking after a front meeting, he mentioned that every party within the alliance would evaluate the causes of the failure. He added that the front would listen to public feedback and make necessary changes based on the people’s wishes.
All parties are expected to complete their internal reviews by June 15, after which the LDF will meet again for a final review. Ramakrishnan accused the UDF of adopting a stance that helped the BJP win three seats. He alleged that both the UDF and BJP attempted to create communal polarisation in Kerala, claiming that he himself was a victim of such tactics.
Regarding the results, the LDF convener said the front has not yet concluded that minority consolidation took place. He stated that they would investigate whether there were attempts at communal division, but clarified that the front does not believe there was an anti-incumbency wave. "If that were the case, shouldn't people point out which specific government action was wrong?" he asked. He added that whether the government's style of functioning contributed to the loss would only be determined after the review, noting that criticism and self-criticism are standard practices within Left parties.
'No place in the party for those who don't correct themselves'
T.P. Ramakrishnan also mentioned that the CPM would inspect activities down to the branch level. He warned that there would be no place in the party for those who refuse to correct their mistakes. Expressing a desire for those who left the party to return after rectifying their errors, he remarked that those who joined the UDF must have abandoned Communist ideals. He also clarified that CPM State Secretary M.V. Govindan’s statement that members can voice opinions fearlessly should not be misinterpreted, acknowledging that some might have hesitated to speak up in party committees previously.
No disputes over Opposition Leader
Addressing the leadership transition, he said the State Secretary holds the primary responsibility for leading the party. The Opposition Leader will be decided as soon as the Chief Minister is finalised, and there are no disputes regarding this. Ramakrishnan added that he spoke with Binoy Viswam, who confirmed that choosing the Opposition Leader is the CPM’s right and dismissed rumours of any disagreement.
