KOLLAM: The City Police have dismantled an illegal organ trafficking syndicate operating in the district, arresting three individuals, including two agents and a donor, for their involvement in a high-stakes trade fueled by forged documents.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Sreeja (40), a resident of Kallumthazham; Sudheer (31), a native of Pattathanam currently residing in Vadakkevila; and Vinod, a man who allegedly sold his organ for financial gain under the agents' direction.

The crackdown followed a tip-off received by Kollam City Police Commissioner Hemalatha regarding an illegal organ trade involving the fabrication of government identification. Acting on this intelligence, a team from the Kilikollur police conducted a raid at Sreeja’s residence in Valiyamadom.

During the search, officers recovered several incriminating items, including mobile phones and forged Aadhaar cards used to bypass legal hurdles in the organ donation process. Digital forensics performed on Sreeja’s mobile device reportedly uncovered concrete evidence linking the group to a previous organ sale conducted in Ernakulam.

Further interrogation of the suspects led to the apprehension of Sudheer, who acted as a secondary agent, and Vinod, the donor. Police officials stated that the gang targeted individuals in financial distress, enticing them to sell organs while providing them with falsified paperwork to mislead medical boards and hospitals.

Authorities are currently on the hunt for the suspected mastermind behind the racket, identified as Muhammad Najib Kallu, a native of Kasaragod.
The successful operation was carried out under the supervision of Kollam ACP T.R. Rajesh. The team was led by Kilikollur SHO Amrutha Satheepan and Inspector Jayaprakash, supported by ASI Dileep Raj, SCPOs Rajagopal and Ambu, and CPOs Jeenamol and Binil. Investigation into the wider network and potential victims of the syndicate remains ongoing.
