KOCHI: Following the conclusion of the recent elections, actor-politician Anjali Nair has hit back at viral social media campaigns alleging her involvement in a cash-for-votes scandal. The actress dismissed claims that she was swindled out of ₹35 lakh by intermediaries promising her a legislative seat, calling the reports "entirely fabricated."
The controversy erupted after several posts began circulating, quoting Anjali as being disgruntled over spending a significant sum of money for a poor electoral showing. Addressing the issue via a video statement, Anjali clarified that the snippets being used to malign her are actually distorted quotes from an old interview conducted years before her political debut.
"It is a blatant lie to suggest I paid money for election gains," Anjali stated, urging social media users to exercise due diligence before spreading misinformation.
Anjali also took the opportunity to silence critics who suggested her political career was a fallback due to a lack of acting roles. She asserted that her transition into public service occurred during a prolific phase in her career, characterised by simultaneous projects in the Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu film industries.
