KOCHI: Actress Shweta Menon, who resigned from the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) has spoken up about the difficulties and challenges she faced in the organization. She reiterated on social media that some have been spreading false propaganda and personal attacks against her and that she resigned because she refused to be a puppet to anyone. She demanded that the accounts of the past two terms, including ours, should be thoroughly reviewed. A forensic audit should be commissioned to ensure complete transparency and accountability. She also responded to the political allegations levelled against her.
‘I thank everyone who has stood by me. I feel it is important that I put my words before the public myself. The reason why I resigned is because I refused to be a puppet to anyone. Even before the AMMA elections, a smear campaign and fabricated allegations were orchestrated against me by putting people like crime Nandakumar and Martin Menachery in the forefront.
Despite all that, I won the election with the support of the majority of AMMA members. I can assure them that I did everything to the best of my ability. Unfortunately, certain vested interests made sure that we never got the opportunity to investigate the wrongdoings of certain previous committee members. The accounts of the past two terms, including ours, should be thoroughly reviewed. A forensic audit should be commissioned to ensure complete transparency and accountability.
Even after my resignation, fabricated allegations and personal attacks are continuing through some newly imported characters. So let me make one thing very clear. I am neither a Sanghi nor a communist. I never attended even one function organized by the BJP-led Central Government or the previous LDF-led state governments, even though I had all the invitations. Not before I became AMMA President. Not after I became AMMA President. I stayed away when everyone else was chasing these invitations.
When I faced baseless personal attacks and insults, as a strong-willed woman, I decided to resign from AMMA. That decision was not out of weakness. It was out of self-respect,’ said her Facebook post.
