Lt. General Dhiraj Seth is India's next Army Chief, will take charge on June 30

NEW DELHI: Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth was appointed as the new Army Chief of the country. He will take over on June 30, when the current Army Chief, General Upendra Dwivedi, retires. General Seth is currently the Vice Chief of the Army Staff.

General Seth is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy, Khadakwasla, Pune. He was commissioned into the Armoured Corps in December 1986. He has commanded an Armoured Regiment, an Armoured Brigade and a Counter-Insurgency Force in Jammu and Kashmir. On his promotion to the rank of Lieutenant General, he served as the Sudarshan Chakra Corps and the General Officer Commanding in the Delhi Area. In a distinguished military career spanning nearly four decades, he has overseen important national and international engagements.

Seth carries with him extensive experience in operational, strategic, capability development and institutional areas, and has made significant contributions to the combat effectiveness and long-term transformation of the Indian Army. His contributions to the modernisation of the Army are widely recognised.

Seth is a graduate of the National Defence College's Higher Command Course and has also attended the prestigious Command and Staff Course in Paris.
