CHENNAI: Two MLAs of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi are likely to support Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), which will help the party achieve the majority. Although VCK has not yet announced its support, there are indications that a decision will be in favour of TVK at their state committee meeting. Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge spoke to party president Thol Thirumalavan over the phone. VCK, which belongs to the 'INDIA' front, had earlier announced that they will support TVK.
The VCK will announce the decision immediately after the meeting at 4 pm today. “The final decision regarding the oath-taking will be taken accordingly. Even if they try to suppress us, in the end, we will decide who will govern," VCK-designated MLA Vanni Arasu had posted a note on social media. It was expected that the VCK would make a decision yesterday evening, but it did not happen. Thirumavalan reached Stalin's house at night and held discussions. Later, he also met Udhayanidhi Stalin. With that, there was a campaign that VCK would not support Vijay.
There are still many obstacles in front of TVK to form the government. The fact that an MLA from the opposite side was forced to sign a contract in a car is evidence of horse-trading. If the Governor accepts this argument, the Assembly can be frozen. Or an investigation can be initiated.
VCK had at one point asked for the Deputy Chief Minister's post. There is also an ego problem that Vijay did not behave in a manner that respected Thirumavalan.
Congress MP Manikyam Tagore alleged that efforts are ongoing to prevent Vijay from ruling Tamil Nadu. Rahul Gandhi had decided to arrive at 8 am today for the oath-taking, but the trip was cancelled due to a change in circumstances.
Meanwhile, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami instructed the MLAs who are at the resort in Puducherry to reach Chennai by this afternoon. It is not clear whether this is to stake a claim. MK Stalin said that there should not be a situation where the assembly is dissolved or frozen and that the government should be formed. AIADMK believes that this stance will benefit them.
The wrong advice from inexperienced leaders is reportedly confusing Vijay and his party. At the same time, the support among commoners for Vijay has increased tenfold. The DMK and the AIADMK know very well that using political machinations to prevent Vijay from forming the government would only turn the film actor-turned-politician invincible in future.
