BJP leader arrested over theft of gold, cash after attacking car in Payyanur

KANNUR: A local BJP leader has been arrested in the case of attacking a gold merchant in Payyanur’s Edat and robbing him of money and gold. The arrested is Sanu Santhosh of Anchampeedika. He attacked the gold merchant of Maharashtra, and his family and robbed them of Rs 55 lakh and gold.

The accused was arrested from Uppala in Kasaragod on Friday evening. The police also found the car used in the attack. Police said that another car used by the accused has been found. The native of Maharashtra has a jewelry shop in Thalassery. The incident happened on June 2. The car of the Maharashtra native was followed and attacked at Edat.

The attackers came in an Innova car. They attacked the people in the car and then stole the money and gold kept in the secret compartment. The car was then destroyed. Further investigation is underway in the incident. The police said the remaining accused will be arrested soon.
