NEW DELHI: Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), was detained inside a flight by Delhi police on Saturday. Dipke’s custody comes ahead of the proposed CJP protest demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar in New Delhi. Dipke, meanwhile, shared footage of his detention via Instagram Live. CJP leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka have also been taken into custody. It is also reported that CJP legal head Ratna Singh has also been taken into custody by police.
Extensive security arrangements have been put in place at Delhi's Jantar Mantar ahead of the protest. More than 20,000 security personnel have been deployed across the area. The police have not granted permission for the protest. As a measure to maintain law and order, over 400 people have already been taken into custody across the capital.
In connection with the protest, the gates of 45 Delhi Metro stations—including Rajiv Chowk, New Delhi, Central Secretariat, Patel Chowk, and Kashmere Gate—have been closed. More than 250 trains—including both long-distance trains from other states and local trains—scheduled to arrive at New Delhi and Hazrat Nizamuddin stations between 4:00 AM and 2:00 PM today have been cancelled.
Bharatiya Janata Party responded for the first time since Saturday, blaming CJP and other leaders for attempting to spread anarchy in the nation. BJP wrote 'win for democracy' on social media.
