THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rain is likely to intensify in Kerala following the formation of low-pressure areas in the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated the possibility of very heavy rainfall in isolated areas across the state on October 23, 24, and 25. From October 23 to 26, there is a likelihood of rain accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, with speeds ranging from 30 to 40 km/h.
A low-pressure area is currently situated over the southeastern Arabian Sea and the adjacent Lakshadweep region. A trough—extending from the cyclonic circulation associated with this system, across Kerala, and reaching the coast of northern Tamil Nadu—has also formed. It is under this influence that heavy rainfall is expected in Kerala.
A new low-pressure area has formed over the southeastern Bay of Bengal and the adjacent east-central Bay of Bengal. It is likely to intensify into a well-marked low-pressure area by tomorrow. Subsequently, moving in a west-northwesterly direction, this system may develop into a deep depression by October 25.
The meteorological department indicated that a cyclonic storm is likely to form over the west-central Bay of Bengal on the morning of October 26. It is expected to intensify further over the following two days while moving in a west-northwesterly direction, likely heading towards the coast of northern Andhra Pradesh and the adjacent coast of southern Odisha.
