KOCHI: Police seized 32 grams of MDMA from a car driven by a 39-year-old man who allegedly attempted to run over police officers during a vehicle inspection in Elamakkara, Kochi. The accused, Pratheesh P. Prakash, a native of Moothakunnam in North Paravur, was arrested by the Elamakkara police and the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF). Two DANSAF team members, Senior Civil Police Officers (SCPOs) Madhusoodanan and Jayaraj, sustained minor injuries to their hands while attempting to stop him.

As part of Operation Toofan, the DANSAF team received confidential information and began following the accused's Swift car from the vicinity of Ernakulam South railway station. Police intercepted the vehicle near the Elamakkara police station, but Pratheesh allegedly reversed the car at high speed and rammed it into the motorcycle on which Madhusoodanan and Jayaraj were travelling. Both officers were thrown onto the road in the impact, but they managed to apprehend him when he attempted to flee.

The MDMA was recovered from the vehicle, and police registered a case against Pratheesh for allegedly attempting to murder police officers by ramming them with a vehicle and for drug trafficking. The rented car has been taken into police custody. A DANSAF team led by Narcotics Cell Assistant Commissioner A. Ananthalal, along with the Elamakkara police, is questioning the accused. According to preliminary information, the drug had been brought from Bengaluru.
