KOLLAM: A woman has been arrested in the murder of her husband, who was suffering from Parkinson’s disease. The dead is Jose Daniel alias Alex (64) of Jiji Bhavan in Kollam Poruvazhy Chathakulam. The police had arrested his wife Mariamma Jose (59) from Chennai the other day. Only the couple was staying in the house in Chathakulam.
Mariamma rushed her husband to the hospital on September 20 after finding him dead. She told the hospital authorities that he had committed suicide. However, the doctor, who felt something unusual seeing the marks on his neck and the minor wounds on his body, informed the police. After postmortem, his body was laid to rest at their family church.
The postmortem report and the results of the forensic examination proved that it was a murder. She strangled him to death with a plastic rope. After his funeral, she fled to Chennai and was staying at her son’s friend’s firm in an industrial area in Tiruvallur Gummidipoondi.
The police located her hiding place by examining her phone records. Her son Jiji and daughter-in-law Preethi stay in Thiruvananthapuram. Jose and his family had earlier lived in Chennai. Reports say the difficulties Mariamma faced in taking care of her husband and the conflicts between the two led to the murder. The accused was produced in the court and remanded.
