Woman, child killed brutally in Attappadi dual murder cases

PALAKKAD: More information has emerged in the incident of finding the body parts of a woman and a girl in sacks at Bhavani River in Attappadi. Postmortem report revealed that the two were murdered brutally. The police have also got hints for committing the murders in the river itself. Police said there were no signs of a struggle at the place from where the bodies were found.

The murdered woman is a native of Assam. The accused, her partner, is a native of West Bengal and a plantation labourer. The couple reached Attappadi in search of a job. The accused started working at a private individual's plantation in Cheerakkadavu just 20 days ago. Police conducted searches at both their residence and workplace but found no evidence pointing to the murders. This has led investigators to suspect that the murders were committed in the river.

The postmortem report says the woman suffered a deep cut on her head, while the child, believed to be around five years old, was strangled to death. The accused then beheaded the woman and then cut the bodies into pieces.

The accused fled to Bengal after the murders, and an investigation team has travelled by air to trace him. The investigation is being conducted by a team led by Agali Deputy Superintendent of Police R Ashok. Police have collected the accused' Call Detail Records (CDR) and are closely monitoring his movements. The accused used to fight with her accusing her of an illegal relationship. The police are examining whether this dispute had led to the murder.
