Chakkakomban tramples tribal man to death in Idukki

IDUKKI: A 47-year-old tribal man was tragically killed in a wild elephant attack at Panniyar Panthadikkalam in Idukki. The victim is Vijayan of Panthadikkalam. The elephant killed him when he was on his way home from a shed at his workplace Wednesday morning. The locals said the elephant named Chakkakomban attacked him.

Three people have been killed in wild elephant attacks in the state over the past one week. A woman, who was seriously injured in a wild elephant attack at Attappady in Palakkad, died on Tuesday. The dead was Bushara (52) of Mannarkkad. The elephant attacked tourists who had entered the Bhavanipuzha River in the Thekkuvatta area.

Despite warnings from forest officials, the group reportedly remained in the river instead of moving away, taking the risk to get a closer look at the elephant. Bushara suffered severe injuries in the attack, including the loss of a finger. She was admitted to a private hospital in Thavalam with serious injuries, but doctors could not save her life.
