KOCHI: The Event Data Recorder (EDR) of the Mini Cooper car involved in the accident that killed three youngsters at Nedumbassery will be sent to Germany for examination. Experts at the BMW headquarters will analyse the data and share their findings with the police. The move is aimed at ensuring that the company's privacy policies are not violated. As the EDR has to be sent to Germany, the police will have to wait longer to access crucial information recorded inside the vehicle at the time of the accident.

The EDR analysis can reveal important details about the vehicle's speed in the few seconds before the accident, whether the brakes were applied, the steering angle, whether the occupants were wearing seat belts and whether the airbags were deployed.

Meanwhile, the Angamaly Magistrate Court on Thursday rejected an application seeking to shift accused Suhail Sajeev to Viyyur Central Jail. The application was filed by the superintendent of the Borstal School, citing security threats to the accused. Suhail will continue to remain at the Borstal School. The court said the authorities could approach it again if any security threat or other issue arises in the future. It also noted that the accused had not raised any concerns regarding his safety.

Meanwhile, the family of Gopika, one of the victims of the accident, has demanded the appointment of a special public prosecutor in the case. The family has sent an email to the Additional Chief Secretary in this regard and will soon submit a formal request through a letter. The family has proposed the name of advocate John S Ralph, who practises at the Kerala High Court, for the post of special public prosecutor.

The family said it was seeking strict legal action without any loopholes, amid allegations that attempts had been made to protect the accused from the beginning of the investigation. It also demanded that the accused be given appropriate punishment.
