Former Idukki MLA Jose Kuttiyani passes away

IDUKKI: Senior congress leader and former Idukki MLA Jose Kuttiyani passed away Monday morning at the Medical Mission Hospital in Kolencherry. He was 87. He represented Idukki in the Assembly in 1980 and 1982. Jose Kuttiyani was the first DCC president of Idukki.

He was under treatment for old age issues for quite some time. He was a close aide of former chief minister K Karunakaran. He had served as an AICC member and a member of the KPCC executive committee. Although he left the Congress for a while, he returned to the party later. In 2009, he contested the Lok Sabha elections with the support of the NCP and later joined the Trinamool Congress. He became the state president of the party. His funeral will be held later.
