Rains just not enough! Power restrictions in the state today between 6:15 PM and 12:45 AM

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The state is witnessing heavy downpour, yet it is not sufficient to put an end to the power restrictions imposed by the Kerala State Electricity Board. The restrictions will be in effect from 6:15 PM to 12:45 AM. KSEB stated that the curbs are due to the failure to secure 200 MW of power through a loan arrangement.

These restrictions can be avoided if power is procured from the market; the final decision on whether to lift the restrictions will depend on market availability. There is a national-level deficit of 12,000 MW. Reduced generation at wind power plants is also a contributing factor to the power restrictions.

Meanwhile, rainfall is intensifying across various parts of Kerala. A 'Yellow Alert' has been issued today for seven districts: Thiruvananthapuram, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Wayanad, and Kannur. A 'Yellow Alert' is also in effect for Thursday, September 24, for the districts of Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod, with forecasts indicating the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall. 'Heavy rain' is defined as rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within 24 hours.
