THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Motor Vehicles Department (MVD) has introduced a significant change in driving licence test procedures. The major revision applies to the ‘H’ test, a key factor of the Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) driving test.

Under the new rule, candidates will be allowed to use the rear-view or reverse camera while reversing the vehicle during the ‘H’ test. The change is based on amendments made to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules and is expected to be implemented in Kerala soon.

Previously, applicants were permitted to use only the vehicle’s side and inside rear-view mirrors while reversing during the driving test. The use of reverse cameras was prohibited. However, with modern vehicles increasingly equipped with safety technologies such as reverse cameras and parking sensors, authorities have decided to update testing procedures in line with technological advancements.

There has long been a demand to modernize driving tests to keep pace with changes in automobile technology. Reports suggest that the new relaxation has been introduced in response to these concerns.
