100 days of 'Priyadarshini Yatra': Mission success, 60 per cent increase in female passengers

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Tomorrow marks the completion of 100 days since the launch of the ‘Priyadarshini Yathra’ scheme, which allows women to travel for free on KSRTC ordinary buses. To commemorate this milestone, Transport Minister C P John will visit the Thampanoor depot at 10 am tomorrow and distribute sweets to both staff and passengers.

The scheme was launched to reduce travel expenses for women and encourage more of them to use public transport. According to KSRTC data, implementing the scheme led to a 60 per cent increase in the number of female passengers on KSRTC ordinary buses.

KSRTC stated on its Facebook page that the scheme provides financial relief to women who rely on the service for daily commutes, while also benefiting those travelling for purposes such as education, employment, and medical treatment. The post was shared under the headline: "The popular 'Priyadarshini Yathra'—reaches its 100th day."

The scheme was implemented to ensure safe, convenient, and affordable public transport for women. KSRTC also claimed that 'Priyadarshini Yathra' succeeded in bringing more women into the public transport system and making KSRTC services more people-friendly.
