Rain turns road treacherous in Thiruvalla: Two killed as pickup van hits scooter

PATHANAMTHITTA: Two people were killed after a scooter they were travelling on collided with a pickup van at Thukalassery in Thiruvalla on Sunday morning. The deceased have been identified as Ajeesh Mohanan, 29, a native of Thalavady in Alappuzha, and Niyas, a migrant worker. The accident occurred around 8.30 am.

The pickup van, which reportedly went out of control, collided with the scooter carrying the two men. Both sustained serious injuries and were rushed to a private medical college hospital in Thiruvalla. Ajeesh died while undergoing treatment. Niyas, who was travelling with Ajeesh, was also undergoing treatment for serious injuries and died around noon.

Heavy rain was reported in the area at the time of the accident. A preliminary assessment suggests that the pickup van skidded on rainwater, resulting in the collision. The pickup van driver did not suffer any major injuries. Thiruvalla police said further proceedings are underway.
