Deal with Iran or military action? Trump says ‘big decision’ looms

NEW YORK: US President Donald Trump said Tuesday he faces a “big decision” on whether to reach a deal with Iran or pursue further military action, while urging countries around the world to maintain economic pressure on Tehran.

Addressing the United Nations General Assembly, Trump said he hoped to reach an agreement with Iran after the US midterm elections. He also repeated his claim that Tehran was seeking a deal to end the conflict. “Do we make a deal that can make Iran a great country? Or do I annihilate the Islamic Republic?” Trump asked.
As Trump began speaking about the past six months of US military strikes against Iran, members of the Iranian delegation walked out of the General Assembly hall, with only one person remaining seated.

Trump described Iran as the “best example” of a danger that had been allowed to grow to a level that threatened global security. He also called Iran the “number one sponsor of terrorism.”
