AMMAN: Seven people were killed and 10 others injured when two unidentified gunmen opened fire during a funeral ceremony at a religious site in Jordan’s southern Karak governorate on Friday night. Some of the injured were in critical condition, according to media reports citing the official news agency.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers arrived in a vehicle, fired continuously for around five minutes and then fled the scene. Reports indicated that between 150 and 200 people were inside and around the site when the shooting occurred. Most of those killed and injured were reportedly aged between 50 and 70.
Communications Minister Mohammed Al Momani said security forces had launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities had not yet released further details about the suspects or disclosed a motive for the attack.
