NEW DELHI: A powerful 6.2-magnitude earthquake struck Afghanistan on Saturday evening, sending strong tremors across India's National Capital Region (NCR) and surrounding areas.

The sharp vibrations, which lasted for several seconds, triggered panic among residents in Delhi and neighbouring towns. Moments after the shaking stopped, thousands of citizens took to social media platforms to share videos and accounts of swaying ceiling fans, rattling fixtures, and the sudden evacuation of high-rise buildings.

According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the central nodal agency for monitoring seismic activity, the epicenter of the quake was located within Afghanistan. Fortunately, preliminary assessments bring a sigh of relief. Authorities have confirmed that there are currently no reports of casualties or significant structural damage from any of the affected regions in India. Local disaster management teams remain on alert to monitor any aftershocks.
