Clash during Parliament march; police chase away CJP activists, students also beaten

NEW DELHI: Police used lathis to disperse protesters during a march organised by the Cockroach Party (CJP) in Delhi, where demonstrators demanded the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over the alleged NEET examination irregularities and called for reforms in the education system. The lathi-charge took place after protesters tried to cross police barricades set up near Kerala House. Personnel from the Delhi Police, CRPF and other paramilitary forces used force to stop the march. Several protesters, including students, were beaten before senior officers intervened and brought the situation under control.

The CJP march began at Jantar Mantar and caused major traffic disruptions in parts of the national capital. A large number of security personnel had been deployed to manage the protest. Delhi Police said prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) remain in force across the city.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police said the CJP had not sought permission for the march. The protest had been announced by activist Sonam Wangchuk, who was recently shifted to a hospital while on a hunger strike. However, police clarified that no permission had been sought or granted for a march towards Parliament. Police also warned that strict action would be taken against anyone violating the prohibitory orders.

Delhi Police said extensive security arrangements have been put in place as the Monsoon Session of Parliament began on Monday. Officials warned that anyone found violating the restrictions could face legal action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and other applicable laws.
