‘Fake’ PMO official with armed ‘bodyguard’ tries to enter Narendra Modi event; held by police

MUMBAI: Mumbai Police arrested two men after they allegedly attempted to enter the venue of an event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. One of the men claimed to be an official from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), while the other posed as his bodyguard and was carrying a gun.

The man identified as Rohan Parekh allegedly used an identity card to gain access to an area near the stage, claiming to be a PMO official.

Before the Prime Minister’s programme began, security personnel at the venue became suspicious while checking Parekh’s documents. A subsequent investigation found that the PMO identity card in his possession was fake.

Police later detained another man who claimed to be Parekh’s bodyguard after finding him in possession of a gun. The two men are being questioned as part of the investigation. Police are trying to determine their motive and how they managed to get close to the high-security venue ahead of the Prime Minister’s event.
