Kerala to remain hot for two more days, rain likely from Thursday

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala is likely to remain hot for the next two days, with temperatures expected to rise by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius across all districts, the State Disaster Management Authority has warned. Punalur recorded a temperature of 36.2°C yesterday, while Kottayam recorded 35.2°C and Palakkad 34.2°C.

However, the weather is expected to change from Thursday, with the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall in several areas. A yellow alert has been issued for Alappuzha and Ernakulam on Thursday, and for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Ernakulam on Friday.

Avoid direct sunlight

The current heat is severe enough to cause serious health problems, including heatstroke, sunstroke and dehydration. Authorities have advised people to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 11 am and 3 pm. Public events should also be avoided during these hours as far as possible.

Power cuts may be imposed

The KSEB has said that electricity consumption has increased as high atmospheric temperatures continue. Restrictions may become necessary if consumption remains high. During peak hours, power consumption is currently 600 to 800 MW higher than it was in September last year.
