Major burglary at house in Thrissur; 55 sovereigns of gold and Rs 3.5 lakh stolen

THRISSUR: A major burglary has taken place at a house within the limits of Thrissur city. Gold ornaments weighing 55 sovereigns and Rs 3.5 lakh in cash were stolen from the house of Koorkanchery resident Hasan Ali. The burglary took place around 1.30 am on Monday when no one was present at the house.

The stolen gold ornaments belonged to Hasan Ali's wife, daughter and daughter-in-law. The cash was kept at home to repay a bank loan.

The burglars damaged two doors of the house while breaking in. Police and fingerprint experts reached the spot and collected evidence. The CCTV camera at the house captured a person entering the premises. However, the CCTV system was damaged during the burglary, preventing investigators from accessing the remaining footage. Nedupuzha police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
