PALAKKAD: After being found guilty in the Nenmara twin murder case, the accused Chenthamara directed a diatribe at the court.
“I am no Gandhi to show the other cheek if slapped. If needed, I will kill others too. I don’t have anything to say to the court. Hang me if you want. It will only be when you go through a similar situation to what I suffered that you will understand me. Now write whatever judgment you want,” - Chenthamara told the court.
During the trial, Chenthamara threatened witnesses. The same behaviour was observed during the evidence collection. The accused showed no remorse, even just hours before waiting for the judgment. The prosecution argued in the court that this was the rarest of rare cases. Chenthamara has been charged with crimes punishable by death, life imprisonment and a fine. The defense argued that Chenthamara suffered from a mental imbalance. However, the court also highlighted the district psychologist's report that brushed off the defense claim of the accused suffering from mental issues.
The court found Chenthamara guilty under sections 103(I) and 126(II) of the IPC. The sentencing will be on Wednesday. Chenthamara is the sole accused in the case of killing Sudhakaran and his mother, Lakshmi, both natives of Pothundi. The prosecution and Sudhakaran's children are hoping the court will pronounce the death penalty. Sudhakaran's children, Akhila and Athulya and other relatives were at the court on Monday.
