KOCHI: The family of a 55-year-old man who died in a road accident at Cheranalloor has staged a protest outside the local police station after the 17-year-old who was driving the car was released on station bail.

The family staged a sit-in protest in front of the Cheranalloor police station. They questioned whether the accused had received special treatment because his father is an Additional District Judge. The family said they would not call off the protest until the 17-year-old was arrested.

Police reportedly found that the car was speeding at the time of the accident. Footage retrieved from the teenager's mobile phone is said to indicate that the vehicle was being driven at 104 kmph. Although the police brought the teenager to the station after the accident, their decision to release him on station bail angered the victim's family.

The family also alleged that the sections invoked in the initial case were weak. They demanded strict action against the teenager who was driving the car and sought a case against the vehicle's owner as well.

Questioning why the accused was released without considering the seriousness of the accident, the family demanded justice. They also staged a road blockade as part of their protest. Tension prevailed in the area as the protest outside the police station intensified.
