KASARGOD: There was an attempt to set a youth on fire in Mogral by dousing him with kerosene. Abdul Gafoor of Koppalam was attacked by a team including a woman. Gafoor, a construction supervisor, was attacked because he owed them money.
The accused attacked them at around 5 am this morning while hiding under the railway underpass. Abdul Gafoor was on his way for work. Immediately three people came from behind, grabbed his hand behind his back, and a woman in the group poured kerosene on him and set him on fire.
Gafoor said the attack was carried out by Tamil Nadu natives who had worked with him in the construction sector. He owes them Rs 3,000 as part of the work. Gafoor added that he was attacked by the team despite being told that he would pay them after getting Rs 10,000 which he has to get from the engineer, but they did not pay heed to it.
Gafoor, who suffered serious burns, is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kumbala. Although he is out of danger, it is reported that he will be shifted to a hospital with better facilities for better treatment. The police, who have registered a case in the incident, have started an investigation.
