THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday revised its weather warning for Kerala, upgrading three southern and northern districts from a green to a yellow alert. The sudden shift follows an increase in rainfall activity across the state.
Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, and Kasaragod—previously classified under a green alert—have now been placed under a yellow alert, bringing the total number of affected districts to nine today. The other districts currently under watch include Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Malappuram, Wayanad, and Kannur.
Meteorological officials have warned of isolated heavy downpours in these regions, with expected rainfall measurements ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour window.
According to the IMD's extended forecast, the intense wet spell is projected to persist across Kerala for the next five days. Localized disruptions are anticipated, and the weather agency has already extended tomorrow's yellow alert to seven districts: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram. Residents in low-lying and hilly terrains have been advised to remain cautious.
