THRISSUR: The plot took a twist in the suicide case of an 18-year-old teen in Kodungallur over alleged police harassment. Following allegations by the youth's father, Naushad—who claimed his son, Muhammed Aslam, took his own life out of distress over a fabricated case—the family of the complainant released audio evidence.
Naushad previously came forward asserting that Aslam just went to the house of the girl he loved but was handed over to the police by the family. It is in this context that the girl's family released an audio recording in which Aslam is heard threatening her.
“Should I release it? You know what the pic is all about, right?” Aslam can be heard threatening the girl. In another audio released by the family, Aslam can be heard talking to a friend: “What will her sister say? She has a lot of money, and I will take it. I am thinking about asking for three lakhs. I know how to get that money.” These audios confirm the police's claim that the girl faced a threat from the teen.
Aslam and his brother Sahal were previously booked for threatening the minor girl by saying that they would release her private visuals and misappropriating gold ornaments. A complaint filed by the girl stated that Rs 50,000 and 20 sovereigns of gold were taken from her. Sahal is currently in remand in connection with this case; the police had previously questioned Aslam as well. Subsequently, on October 6, Aslam was found hanging at his home.
Naushad alleged that Aslam was in a relationship with the girl, but her family, using their influence over the police, took the teen into custody. It is also alleged that Aslam was subjected to brutal torture at the police station.
Naushad said that the elder brother took responsibility for the case after seeing his brother getting roughed up by police. Consequently, an FIR was registered naming both of them as accused. Naushad said that CI Baiju and SI Athul Mohan tortured his sons at the station for three days inside the station.
