THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala responded in the Legislative Assembly regarding the police lathi-charge inside the university hostel. Chennithala stated that the trouble began when students inside the hostel threw beer bottles at the Youth Congress workers.

A dispute arose in the Assembly over the police action against SFI activists. Although MLA V. Joy moved a notice for an adjournment motion, permission was denied. Following this, the Opposition staged a walkout. The Home Minister's response came subsequently.

“There are only a few students inside the hostel. Many others have made the place their home. Let the Higher Education Minister conduct an inquiry. The police force is the same one that existed during Pinarayi Vijayan's tenure. The attitude of SFI students and others to stage a march at the houses of police officers involved in duty will not be encouraged."

Opposition Leader Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the commotion from the men's hostel arose solely because the power went out during the Youth Congress march. He alleged that the police unleashed violence on the hostel students for no real reason.
