Noise pollution in Edavanna temple; Police ordered to intervene directly to avoid any inconvenience to complainant 

MALAPPURAM: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has ordered that sound from temples must not exceed the permissible limits. The commission also pointed that it is the legal obligation of the concerned police to take strict action under the noise pollution act. The commission's order was issued in response to a complaint filed by local resident Jayan against noise pollution at the Mahavishnu Temple in Kolappad, Edavanna.

Based on the complaint, the pollution control board had found that the noise level in the temple premises was higher than the permissible limit. The commission later ruled that sound equipment should be used only within the limits prescribed by law.

The Edavanna police should directly intervene and ensure legal action so that the complainant and his family do not face any inconvenience due to noise pollution. The police should also investigate the violation of privacy, improper use of CCTV cameras, and obstructions in using public roads raised in the complaint and take remedial action.
The citizen's right to life, privacy, and freedom of movement must be protected. The commission also clarified in its order that the Edavanna SHO should submit a detailed report on the steps taken based on the order within two months.
