THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Devaswom Department will soon begin the procedures to make the Thiruvallam Parasurama Swami Temple a national pilgrimage centre. After discussing this with the Central Archaeological Department, the survey process will be initiated. It is estimated that land on the Karamana River will have to be acquired. In the state budget, it was announced that the temple would be developed emulating the Tirupati model.

Thousands of people come from within and outside the state for the liberation of their ancestors. However, on January 22, Kerala Kaumudi pointed out in a news report about the stagnant state of development in the temple and the failure to provide adequate facilities to devotees.

The temple, which is under the protection of the Archaeological Department, is administered by the Travancore Devaswom.

👉The puja items are dropped in the Killi river after the Bali Tharpanam.

👉The puja items are clogging the river.

👉The sacred area is now filled with sewage.

👉Although there are showers for bathing, most of them do not work.

The Devaswom Board planned a project to provide a facility for offering Bali tharpanam on the land near the Karamana River 15 years ago, but nothing materialised. There is not even a proper toilet block in the temple. A temporary toilet facility is being provided during Karkidaka Vavu on the road. There are no adequate parking facilities. On busy days, parking is a mess.

Devotees perform rituals sitting from the right side of the temple to the flagpole of the Shiva temple. Rain means devotees have to perform the ritual drenched. All that is left is a small room on the side. More people need a permanent facility to perform rituals without getting drenched in rain.

The construction of the bridge for the service road is in progress. The junction needs to be developed so that vehicles can enter and exit the temple from the road smoothly.
