Crisis worsens due to sweltering weather: Power restrictions in Kerala between 6.30 pm and 12.30 am today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala State Electricity Board announced that partial power restrictions will be imposed in the state today. The measure is due to the possibility of an increase in power consumption of 800 to 900 MW due to the sweltering climate in Kerala. The restrictions will be between 6.30 pm and 12.30 am. Power restrictions were imposed in the past few days as well.

Yesterday, there was a power outage for about an hour at various times. KSEB says that the crisis is a little more serious today. The restrictions will continue if the required power is not available from the power exchange. Until yesterday, the restrictions were imposed from 6.30 pm to 12 am, but today they have been extended to 12.30 am.

Due to the relatively high ambient temperature, electricity consumption in the state has increased significantly compared to the past. Along with this, due to the increased demand for electricity across the country, there is also a significant reduction in the availability of electricity through the power exchange.

According to the Grid Controller of India, the country's electricity supply is still facing a shortfall of 12,000 MW, which has not been fully addressed. KSEB has also informed that there is an unexpected shortfall in the supply of electricity from central power plants.
