R Sreelekha, BJP State Vice President and retired DGP, came out with scathing criticism after police registered a case over her derogatory remarks against the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi. Sreelekha alleged that the government is practising a "double standard" in justice. She voiced this criticism through a post on Facebook.
Sreelekha:
The government’s double standard!
If someone makes derogatory remarks about the Prime Minister, it is treated as a case of defamation—something the police cannot act upon directly.
Yet, if a complaint is received alleging that something was said about Rahul Gandhi, it is framed as a criminal offence—a case of incitement to riot!
Sreelekha also put a photo of a news article showing the Kerala government's refusal to take any case against UAPA-charged journalist Siddique Kappan's wife over a defamatory social media post targeting PM Modi. Raihanna Sidhique shared a post saying, " New sex position where you get on top and do nothing". This post was meant to target Modi, while there are allegations over the government's refusal to take any case over the post.
Sreelekha highlighted the issue to show the hypocrisy practised by the government,
On Friday, Punalur police registered a case against Sreelekha, charging her with deliberately creating provocation with the intent to incite unrest. The complaint was filed by C. Vijayakumar, the Congress Punalur Block President. Sreelekha had remarked that the attitude displayed by Rahul Gandhi in Delhi to protest was a result of an excessive intake of drugs. She made this comment during a 'Janasabha' (public meeting) organised by the BJP Kollam East District Committee in Punalur.
Sreelekha further alleged that Rahul Gandhi had pushed and shoved the Congress ministers accompanying him during the protests.
