
KOCHI: Police registered a case against YouTuber Muhammed Nihad, popularly known as 'Thoppi', for spreading obscene videos on social media. Thoppi is currently absconding. The case under the IT Act is for posting nude videos of his friends on social media. The action by the Ernakulam Rural Cyber Police is based on a complaint filed by Adv. Sreejith Perumana. Another investigation is underway against the 'Thoppi Gang' as per the orders of State Police Chief Ravada Chandrasekhar.
Nihad, a native of Mangad, Kannur, now lives in Varappuzha, Ernakulam. The police said that the YouTuber had not been at his house for the past few weeks. Former members of the gang, Mammu and Shameer, had come forward with serious allegations against Nihad, which led to mudslinging on social media. The duo revealed through a video that Nihad had sexually exploited girls and later paid them well to keep it a secret. A video of ganja being found in Nihad's room was also released. In response to this, Nihad also alleged that his friends used to do drugs. Later, Nihad posted obscene videos of his friends on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube. The DGP ordered an investigation after their live videos came to light. State Cyber Operations Superintendent Ankit Ashokan is in charge of the investigation.
Nihad and his friends are being investigated for allegations of POCSO, narcotics cases, MDMA use, mental and physical abuse, obscene propaganda, and cybercrimes. The fact that lakhs of students follow Thoppi on social media adds to the seriousness of the incident. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala stated that a proper investigation will be conducted into the complaint against Nihad.
