THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A survey is being conducted to identify the political affiliations of contract and temporary employees working in various government departments and institutions in the state. The preliminary data collection is reportedly being led by service organisations affiliated with the Congress, focusing on those who were appointed during the LDF government’s tenure. The move is aimed at identifying employees working on a temporary basis so that they can be removed after the new government takes office and replaced with new appointees.
The survey is taking place in several departments and institutions, including DPI, Tourism, Technical Education, Health, Revenue, and the Language Institute under the Cultural Affairs Department.
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Kudumbashree had earlier issued an order freezing the renewal of contracts for employees working in the state and district missions. Temporary appointments currently exist in posts such as office attendant, driver, watchman, clerk, accountant, typist, computer assistant, and editorial assistant.
When the first Pinarayi Vijayan government came to power, temporary employees appointed during the term of the previous Oommen Chandy government were removed from service. Later, many new appointments were made to the same posts. Several of those employees continued in the same positions during the second term of the LDF government as well.
