WASHINGTON: US Senator and Republican Party leader Lindsey Graham died of a heart attack at his Washington, D.C., home on Saturday night local time. The unexpected death came a day after he returned from an official visit to Ukraine. Graham celebrated his 71st birthday on the 9th of this month. Lindsey, a US Air Force colonel, was a close ally of President Donald Trump. A former member of the House of Representatives, he had been a senator from South Carolina since 2003.
Lindsey, a strong supporter of Trump's foreign policies, had called for a 500 per cent import tariff on Russia's energy partners, including India. Graham is unmarried.
