Class 1 student beaten by teacher; Parents file police complaint

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A complaint has been filed against a teacher for beating a student of class one of Kavalayoor Government Higher Secondary School in Kadakkavoor. Sandra, daughter of Sunil of Kavalayoor Venpalavattom Konath House, was beaten for not writing her lessons. Sandra, who sustained injuries on her finger was first admitted at the Varkala Taluk Hospital and later at the Paripally Medical College.

The teacher beat Sandra last Thursday. The child did not tell her parents about the pain she had. The next day, her mother noticed the swelling on the child’s finger when she checked the hand after seeing her keeping it covered. It was only when Sandra, who developed a fever following the injury, was admitted to the hospital that doctors discovered a ligament injury in the finger. Now she has a plaster on her hand.

Her parents have filed a complaint with the Kadakkavoor police station, social welfare department and the school authorities. The school's principal said that she has received a complaint and tried to call both parties for talks, but didn't work out.
