KOCHI: DySP Sudheer Kallan has been suspended for lapses in the arrest of Dr M K Ram, the main accused in the case related to the death of Nithin Raj, a dental college student at Anjarakandy. The Kerala High Court had strongly criticised the home department for not taking action against Sudheer Kallan. The suspension comes shortly after the court’s criticism.
The high court had strongly criticised for not suspending DySP Sudheer Kallan. The court had earlier pointed that the police, under Sudheer Kallan’s leadership, had allegedly attempted to help the accused evade arrest. It subsequently directed that action be taken against the DYSP.
The high court had also criticised the home department, saying that allowing Sudheer Kallan to continue in service was a failure on its part. The court questioned why no action had been taken against Sudheer when officials including ADGP M R Ajith Kumar had been suspended. When Ram, who had been absconding, was arrested, procedural lapses resulted in him being granted bail. When the case was considered earlier, the court had observed that this was a deliberate lapse on the part of the police.
