Additional 300 MW power needed; KSEB warns of possible power cuts today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has warned that power cuts may be imposed again today if it fails to procure enough electricity from the power exchange.

The last round of power restrictions was enforced from 7 pm on July 16 until 12.50 am on July 17. Although similar warnings were issued on several other days, power cuts were ultimately avoided.

Kerala's electricity consumption reached 90 million units on Wednesday. Of this, only 9.65 million units were generated within the state. Power cuts were avoided after KSEB procured 83.61 million units of electricity from external sources.

Power demand is expected to increase by another 300 MW today. KSEB said that if it is unable to procure the required electricity from the power exchange, it may have to impose power restrictions.
