THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A recommendation has been submitted to the government to amend the rules in connection with the appointment of PSC members. Presently, no educational qualifications have been fixed for PSC members. In this context, a report submitted by the Public Administration Secretary suggests that this should be changed and degree should be made the minimum qualification. The report was submitted to the chief minister based on the Supreme Court order.
The recommendation states that a special interview board should be constituted for the appointment of PSC members, and the qualifications and work experience of the applicants must be scrutinized thoroughly. Moreover, the recommendation specifies that the number of members in the PSC should be limited, and clear criteria must be introduced for appointing public servants/political workers as members.
Meanwhile, Rajendra Arlekar has submitted a recommendation to the President to dismiss the PSC Chairman. He submitted the recommendation a week before he stepped down as the Governor of Kerala, marking an unprecedented event in the state's history. He has recommended to oust all members including the chairman.
