KANNUR: Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader and former Kannur District Panchayat President P.P. Divya sent a letter to the party's central leadership purportedly requesting that they reconsider the disciplinary action taken against her. The letter also addresses her removal from the position as an office-bearer of the Democratic Women's Association (Janadhipathya Mahila Association). In the letter, Divya raised concerns about not being allowed to work for the party following her removal from the post of State Joint Secretary. She further alleged that it was District Secretary P.K. Shyamala who excluded her from activities at the district centre. Divya sent this letter just before an extended district committee meeting.
Party General Secretary M.A. Baby confirmed receiving the letter and said they could discuss the matter soon. Baby also mentioned that he had spoken with Divya over the phone. Following the death of ADM Naveen Babu, Divya was demoted from the Kannur District Committee to the branch level. It was anticipated that she would be reinstated to the District Committee during the expanded District Committee meeting, but it did not happen. Seemingly out of disappointment, Divya posted a note on Facebook hinting at distancing herself from the party.
Meanwhile, the government ordered a Vigilance inquiry against Divya on Saturday. The probe stems from a complaint alleging that, during her tenure as District Panchayat President, she awarded construction contracts to 'Carton India Alliance Private Limited' without following the tender process. The investigation will also cover her husband, Ajith, and the former Secretary of the District Panchayat, Abdul Latheef.
