KOCHI: Protest against the strange directive that students of medical colleges in the country should not be given a holiday today to avoid irregularities in the NEET re-exam. The students said the directive of the National Medical Commission is an encroachment on their personal freedom. The requirement that they cannot even take medical leave even though it is a Sunday is causing difficulties and they will not comply with the directive.

Failing to ensure the smooth and secure conduct of an examination attending by nearly 2.5 million students is a clear indication of the government’s administrative failure. Locking up medical college students without strengthening security arrangements is never acceptable, said a student of Kozhikode Medical College.

The NEET re-exam is being held with strict security norms. The exam will be held from 2 pm to 5.15 pm today. Students with disabilities have been allowed time till 6.20 pm. The exam will be held today in 551 cities in the country and 14 centers abroad. The exam was canceled after it was reported that the question paper of the medical exam held on May 3 was leaked.

The temporary ban on the Telegram app in the wake of the NEET re-examination is also drawing widespread criticism. Critics pointed that such measures reveal the government's incompetence.
